Miles: Probably 5 around town....no joke!
Camping: Ashland Commons
As much as I try to do it, sleeping in is as elusive as bigfoot, even in town. I woke up at 6 and looked up breakfast restaurants in town, realizing the harsh reality that they don't open until 8 here. I laid in my big bed and stared at the ceiling, enjoying the feeling of not having to jump right out of bed. I sent a text to Ninja, and we agreed to meet at a restaurant at 8, and in the meantime I went on a hunt for a breve. I ended up finding a great cafe that roasts their own beans (I <3 the Pacific Northwest), and they take coffee seriously. This translated to the most magical cup of coffee I've had all summer. A perfectly thick, creamy breve with beans roasted and brewed to a science.
As I was enjoying this, Caboose and Sacred Cow came into the cafe. They also ordered breves, and we all sipped our mugs with expressions of sheer pleasure. I had to get walking to meet Ninja, so I said goodbye and headed down the street. We met up with Blisster, Dave, Brittany, Landfill, Apache, and Danger Spoon at the restaurant and all had amazing breakfasts. We then went back to the hostel and did our town chores independently.
I had decided to do my entire resupply for Oregon here, so I had my work cut out for me. It's a lot of work, but then I will not have to worry about it for the next 3 weeks. I can just hike and make as much progress as possible to meet my goal of arriving in Portland at the end of the month. I had to walk all over town to collect all I would need for the month, and it was exhausting! I got back to the hostel and boxed everything up, barely finishing by 5. I still have to mail things out, but the post office is closed and I'll have to wait until tomorrow.
The rest of the night was for relaxing. We all walked to the Co-op for dinner, and came back to watch movies and eat. We watched, "Oh, Brother Where Art Thou," and then, "Good Will Hunting," in honor of Robin Williams passing today. It was a full and busy day. I may have to zero tomorrow to give my feet a break after pounding pavement all day...but I'll feel that out in the morning. It might be best though, as I won't get another day off until Portland! That, and I can catch part of the Shakespeare festival here in Ashland.
Until then...
